Recently, Little General donated $10,000 to Toys for Tots with the help of Tristen Smith, 7 year-old daughter of Steve and Tasha Smith of Mabscott. Instead of asking her parents for Christmas presents, Tristen wanted to bring toys to kids staying at Burlington United Methodist Family Services, Inc. Tristen proclaimed, “I want to help others. I feel sad other kids don’t have any presents and I want to make them happy.” Her generosity impressed Little General so much that she was asked to help present the donation.

“The community has supported Little General over the years and this is just one of the ways we can give back.” stated Brian Waugh, Director of Retail for Little General. Jay Quesenberry, local community organizer for Toys for Tots, affirmed a donation like Little General’s makes a huge difference for kids. Last year, the organization gave 13,000 toys to 7,000 children. If you would like to make a monetary donation to Toys for Tots, visit

Originally created to support the families of the brave miners lost at the Upper Big Branch Mine in Montcoal, West Virginia, Remember the Miners has grown into an industry-wide campaign for people in the coal fields and across the country to support our miners whose hard work and passion help drive our great nation. In addition, Remember the Miners has built a Scholars Program from the ground up that has awarded $25,000 in scholarships to sons and daughters of coal miners and those who wish to pursue higher education in the mining industry.
