Our History

In 1975, Harry Gilbert formed Little General Stores and started building a chain of convenience stores to go along with his fuel distributorship.

Little General Stores continued to grow throughout the years and in 1991 Mr. Gilbert sold the company to Robert Workman and Harold Wilkes. Finally, the company was sold to current owners Cory Beasley and Greg Darby. At the time, Little General operated 38 stores and was a franchisee for Godfather’s Pizza and Subway. Prior to purchasing the company, Greg had worked for the company for 19 years and Cory for 6 years and had taken over most of the day-to-day operations and tasks.

Since purchasing the company, Greg and Cory have expanded Little General Stores throughout West Virginia, Virginia and Ohio. We now operate 114 convenience stores and are fuel distributors for Exxon and Marathon, as well as having a single Sunoco location.

We currently are franchisees and operate the following branded food service operations: Subway, Arby’s, Godfather’s Pizza, Taco Bell, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, Teriyaki Madness and Buffalo Wild Wings Go.
With even more expansion in the upcoming years, Little General Stores prides itself by investing in our communities and supporting Appalachia.
