All About Community

Supporting Local and National Causes

Each year, Little General Stores pull together to support several local and national causes! From the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network to the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment at the WVU Cancer Institute and our very own Little General Scholarship Fund, we proudly stand behind many organizations and initiatives that make a difference right here at home and across the country.

About the Little General Scholarship Fund

Each year, Little General donates $1,000 to deserving students who excel in all aspects. Little General has donated over $175,000 and counting since the start of the program. Supporting our children is investing in a better tomorrow.

How We Support Local YMCA Groups

Little General also serves as a proud sponsor of the Beckley – Raleigh County YMCA. The YMCA has been a part of the heart and soul of our community for over 40 years and is a constant, promoting personal wellness and focused on the important things in life: children, family and community.

How We Support West Virginia University and College Athletic Programs

Athletics promote physical health and teach us valuable life skills, such as leadership and teamwork. Little General stands as a proud sponsor of West Virginia University, Mountain State University, Marshall University and many other local schools and athletic programs across the state.

How We Support Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots is a foundation that donates toys to underprivileged children. For several years, Little General has made monetary donations and collected toys at all Little General Store locations for the program. We believe there is nothing more rewarding than bringing happiness to those less fortunate and this is just one of the many ways we can give back.

One year, Little General donated $10,000 to Toys for Tots with the help of Tristen Smith, 7 year-old daughter of Steve and Tasha Smith of Mabscott. Instead of asking her parents for Christmas presents, Tristen wanted to bring toys to kids staying at Burlington United Methodist Family Services, Inc. Tristen proclaimed, “I want to help others. I feel sad other kids don’t have any presents and I want to make them happy.” Her generosity impressed Little General so much that she was asked to help present the donation.

How We Support Remember the Miners

Little General is an annual sponsor of Remember the Miners, founded as a public awareness campaign to support the men and women of the coal mining industry. Originally created to support the families of the brave miners lost at the Upper Big Branch Mine in Montcoal, West Virginia, Remember the Miners has grown into an industry-wide campaign for people in the coal fields and across the country to support our miners whose hard work and passion help drive our great nation. In addition, Remember the Miners has built a Scholars Program from the ground up that has awarded $25,000 in scholarships to sons and daughters of coal miners and those who wish to pursue higher education in the mining industry.
