Bob Huggins, Little General Stores present check to support cancer care in West Virginia

College Basketball Hall of Fame Coach Bob Huggins along with Little General Stores’ Greg Darby and Dustin Darby presented a check to staff at the CAMC Cancer Center – Beckley on Friday, July 12.

The annual “Evening with Bob Huggins,” fundraiser was held at Fairchild Motor Company showroom in Beaver, West Virginia presented by Little General Stores, in October 2023.

The reception and dinner raised $100,000.

“Giving back to our community has always been incredibly important to the Little General Stores family,” said Greg Darby, President of Little General Stores, Inc. “By raising funds to support a cancer center here in Beckley, we hope to make the lives of cancer patients and their families a little easier – they can get their treatment here in Beckley and stay closer to home.”

The Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Endowment Fund was established by Coach Huggins in his mother’s name to support cancer care and research across West Virginia. Coach Huggins has established this fund with Vandalia Health, which provides cancer care services spanning the entire state of West Virginia, to better support the fund’s mission. The Remember the Miners Scholars Program provides scholarships to engineering students who concentrate on mining and mining safety.

CAMC’s cancer services have been accredited since 1956 and offer the highest trained, nationally-certified health care professionals in the region.

Vandalia Health, created by Mon Health System and Charleston Area Medical Center in 2022, operates cancer centers in Beckley, Charleston, Elkins, Hurricane, Kingwood, Morgantown and Weston.

According to the most recent data, there are over 35,500 patient counters at the CAMC Cancer Center and over 10,500 patient encounters at Mon Health System annually.
