This summer, hit the road and visit some of the state’s most breathtaking overlooks. While some hiking is involved, we promise these views are worth the effort!
Long Point – New River Gorge National Park & Preserve
As the nation’s newest National Park, the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve has been a popular pitstop for roadtrippers – and the Long Point overlook is a must-see! With a full view of the New River Gorge Bridge, Long Point is one of the most popular overlooks in the area. To get to the overlook, there is a 3-mile round-trip hike – it will take a little time, but it’s worth the view!

Coopers Rock – Coopers Rock State Forest
For an amazing view of Cheat Canyon, stop by the Coopers Rock Overlook. With the main overlook just off the parking lot, you won’t have to walk far for this beautiful vista!

Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory – Monroe County
This one will take a little more effort, but we promise it’s worth it! The Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory in Monroe County is a popular stop for birdwatchers, with the main bird migrations being from August to October. But the view from the old fire tower is breathtaking!

Lindy Point – Blackwater Falls State Park
With a 62-foot waterfall, Blackwater Falls State Park is a popular pitstop in West Virginia and Lindy Point offers the perfect overlook. The Lindy Point Trail is 0.4 miles, so is pretty family friendly and includes a wooden observation platform with an epic view of Blackwater River Canyon.
